Y2 work on sentence openers.

Check out the carefully constructed sentences written by a group of Y2 children.

They were writing sentences which open in range of ways - with phrases that give description or tell the reader where or how something is happening.

They then moved on to the challenge of writing sentences which open with a verb phrase.

Can you think of a sentence that starts with a verb? How would you punctuate your sentence?

World Book Day.

Thursday 3rd March was world book Day. We were invited by St. Joseph's, Wetherby, one of our network of schools, to join in their celebrations.

They were lucky enough to be visited by the Leeds Book Awards author, Andrew Newbound. Four of our Y6 pupils took part in a workshop with the author focused on expanding the children's vocabulary.

The 'Word Wizard' then signed the children's copies of his book - Demon Strike.

They also had their photographs taken by the local newspaper which appeared in the Wetherby News last Friday.

Dancing at the Mandela Centre.

On Tuesday 8th March, one of our Y6 pupils went to perform a dance that he has been learning with the RJC dance company at the Mandela Centre in Chapeltown.

Joseph has been working on the dance for a number of hours with children from other schools in Leeds.

He stood out within the group and never put a foot wrong... another proud moment for Fieldhead Carr!

Interschool Quiz Championship 2011

This morning saw two more teams from Fieldhead Carr entering the Interschool Quiz Championship 2011. The two teams were made up of boys and girls from Y3, 4, 5, & 6 and they had to work together to answer general knowledge questions to earn a place in the next round of the competition.

Although we did not take first place and therefore did not make it through to the next round we did our selves proud and had a fantastic time in the process. Whilst we did not get the highest scores we did answer some questions correctly that no-one else managed.

Inclusion Chartermark Award Ceremony

On Tuesday 8th March, Miss Stevens and I took Courtney, Luke and Christopher to the Civic Hall in Leeds to receive our Inclusion Chartermark Award.

We had a tasty lunch, followed by entertainment from children from other schools including, singing, dancing and guitar playing.

 

We went up to receive our award from the Deputy Mayor of Leeds and were very proud to represent every pupil, parent, governor and staff member who worked so hard to achieve this award and make our school the fantastic place that it is!!!!

Christmas time fun at the donkey sanctuary.

This week was party week for those children who have been visiting the donkey sanctuary. There was a sleigh ride, a visit from Santa and festive foods to enjoy!

All the children have thoroughly enjoyed riding this term. Some more lucky pupils will get a chance next term to meet all the donkeys there, especially Simon, our own adopted donkey, sponsored by FS2.
